A Child’s Longing

     (Nurture Me)

Nurture her, but for awhile—

                  lend her what she missed.

Stay with her in the fading light….

as you clasp her hands, her hair you kissed

the curled up body—you held so tight.

She closed her eyes, tears fell from her lashes,

her mother ~~~ you’re the surrogate.

Sad memories, lack of warmth, the gashes

in her heart…she’ll suffocate.

Stay with her until she’s strong,

She will not leave your arms

The darkness black, the road is long,

            …the sadness and anger harms….

So badly she needs what she did not get…

            this terrified, miserable child;

Wants love, and kindness and old needs met

replacing the sorrow that is filed..

In the mind of a child, who has hurt all her life,

this creature by all rights is blessed.

So stay with her, in her pain and strife

and pray for her peace, at best.

The tide has turned, on hope she feeds

her faith has found that the pain will fade,

The wants of a child, the music of needs

is finally sung, and love displayed.

Her gifts are many, the greatest deeds

have freed so many from chains…

And her love for others has planted seeds,

            patiently waiting the nurturing rains.
